A new mentoring program in Louisville has helped more than 100 young men achieve personal and professional goals via basketball.
The Peace League, a program sponsored by Bigger Than A Game and No More Red Dots, targets young men from Metro Louisville to participate in a basketball league to promote neighborhood peace in a safe, and non-threatening environment. The 6-week league and postseason tournament was held at the Neighborhood Place in Louisville's Portland neighborhood and the show-stopping games drew large, standing-room only crowds. Not only did the participants play basketball, they were linked with mentors who provided resources for college scholarships, job placement, as well as financial and life-insurance planning. Five of the Peace League participants were offered opportunities to try out for local college basketball teams, and one young man signed with a top-level professional team in Germany. Several officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department attended the Peace League games, which helped to support BTAG's mission of community service and athletic enrichment for our youth and young adults.
