BTAG YOUTH program

BTAG trains, guides, and helps young adults and student athletes reach higher goals on and off the court. Our mission is not only to promote excellence academically and athletically, but to also help prepare them for life after basketball.

Participants finished off the 2017 program year with the Inaugural FINAL SCORE celebration and reception. The keynote speaker was NBA Legend and former University of Louisville Cardinal Darrell Griffith. Affectionately known as Dr. Dunkenstein, Griffith is also a successful entrepreneur. He spoke to BTAG's young men about the importance of having a good character, self respect and striving for academic achievement. "Character will get you a long way in life," Griffith said. "It's important to respect your neighbors, your mom and dad, and ultimately it is important to respect yourself."  BTAG believes Griffith is an excellent role model because of his commitment to giving back to the Louisville Community. In 2014, Griffith opened the Darrell Griffith Athletic Center at the West End School.

In the fall of 2017, from October through December, BTAG held an 8-week pilot program at the Baxter Community Center. In addition to joining after-school basketball teams, youth in the community learned life skills from professional mentors, police officers and business leaders. Young men in the BTAG program also participated in a tie-tying workshop to prepare them for the corporate world. BTAG will be launching the full program at multiple community centers throughout metro Louisville in the fall of 2018.

OUR MISSION

BTAG’s mission is to use sports as a platform to help guide and mentor young student athletes through the process of getting to and through college. BTAG is an acronym that not only stands for, but shows that the lessons learned in sports can be “Bigger Than A Game.”
BTAG highlights and demonstrates ways that sports can be used as a catalyst for success in other life arenas.  We not only are providing training with skill specific tools to help them succeed on the athletic level; but also a structured outlook on college readiness and life skills in general.
BTAG will train, guide, and also assist with promoting student athletes to higher academic institutions.  Our mission is not only to promote excellence academically and athletically, but to also help prepare them for life after graduation.

BTAG is also proud to partner with Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation,
and the Boys and Girls Club of Kentuckiana.
